Lot 48: November 2016

NYC day 2

if you missed day 1 here it is.  apologies for crappy pictures and too many pictures. but i don't care!!

the next morning we debated going to the parade.  but we would have had to get up at 6 am and stand in the cold for 5 hours.  and i wasn't going to do that.  that's insanity. so we slept through it.  and then i woke up at 930 and tried to watch it on the tv but we didn't have such luxury as nbc on the tv.  so we didn't see it at all.  how stupid is that?  i was disappointed.

the first thing we did was go to central park.  we were staying on the upper west side and the park was a few blocks from our apartment.  taran loved the park and especially loved the squirrels.  he said they were "elegant" squirrels because of where they lived.  elegant because they lived in central park and were fancy squirrels.  okay.

we decided to rent bikes and ride around central park that way. i'm so glad we did, it was a great way to see the park and cover the most ground in the shortest amount of time! taran was adamant that he get a hot dog in central park.  he had seen it on so many shows he had to get it!

and also... so funny... taran has watched gossip girl with me a few times when he wants to cuddle and i'm watching it so he might as well because he likes it secretly but he won't admit it.  that morning, he said "are we going to go to the park like in gossip girl?!? they were always in the park." hahaha it was so funny.  i explained that the characters lived on the upper east side not west where we were and he was really disappointed.  we didn't go to the east side until our last day.

then we headed to lincoln square where i had made reservations for thanksgiving at bar baloud.  it was really, really good.  i had googled "best places to have thanksgiving in nyc" and compared by price and menu.  i didn't want duck, i wanted a darn turkey on thanksgiving and some of the options out there were weird.  i'm so glad we chose this place.  it was really, really good but i still missed my mom's cooking.

this is the manhattan temple of our Church!  its really cool because there is no space in nyc, they built the temple on top of one of our chapels.  where else were they going to build it?  i'm so glad we got to see it.

some of the subway signs were so cool!  i loved how old they looked.

i always see a movie on thanksgiving, its a family tradition, and i thought "what is better than a movie on thanksgiving? the rockettes!"  buying tickets for thankgiving day was one of the very first
things i did when i booked our trip to new york. i packed a really cute outfit and got so many compliments on it and a lot of stares of admiration on our way to radio city music hall.  pink tulle skirt for the win!  it was such a great show.

i came to nyc when i was 11 with my parents, and i don't remember much about the trip.  we came in december, so one of the things i do remember so very vividly was seeing the rockettes.  i remember radio city music hall, i remember the show, i remember the kick line, the costumes, every detail.  when i walked in that night, it was exactly how i remembered.  nothing had changed.  and the show hadn't changed either.  15 years later and it was still the same.  it was magical.  except when we got there the line was a quarter mile long.  we were 20 minutes late because it took so long to get everybody in!!

i like thanksgiving day because we didn't push ourselves or do a whole lot.  it was nice a chill, much unlike the rest of the trip, you will see.

NYC day 1

wow. oh wow oh wow.  guys.  my new york city vacation was absolutely incredible.  beyond incredible.  i am at a loss of how to blog this vacation.  we did so so much i want it alll documented for myself.  i also don't want to bore you.  but i more than my desire not to bore you is my desire to have this trip document to its fullest extent.  so you can choose to read these posts or not, they are a comin'.

the problem we have other than bombarding you with a bunch of photos is trying to include the snaps i did that documented the trip.  i first made them into gifs but then there was no sound.  so then i made them into 10 second you tube videos.  so you have that to look forward to as well!  shaky, terrible videos that were originally snaps.

we arrive in NYC in the early afternoon the day before thanksgiving. we got on a bus and then the train and carried our luggage for 3 hours to get to our airbnb. i couldn't believe that i was finally in nyc.  i had seem so many movies, tv shows, blog posts, you name it on the city but couldn't imagine myself in it.  i couldn't imagine what it was actually like.  and there i was!! it was surreal.

we met our host right near macy's where he worked to get our key.  they were setting up for the parade and i saw we walked out of the subway and i saw that believe sign and the large sidewalks and the crowds and it hit me like a ton of bricks "I AM HERE!!"

this was where we stayed!  it was really nice.

then we had tickets to the late night with seth meyers.  i was so freaking excited that i managed to get tickets.  for those wondering, if you ever want to get into a taping of a show, go to 1iota and you can request tickets for all your favorite shows in la and nyc.  you don't always get them, so be sure to request them early.  request them early i did so we actually go into the taping!  it was SO COOL!

this is the rink and such outside 30 rock!

while we waited to get into the show, we hung out in the nbc store and i pretended to be christina aguilera or however you spell her freaking name.

doin' the news.

had an obligatory nyc black and white cookie and it was SO GOOD

there was obviously no photography allowed in the taping, so sadly you don't get to see anything, but seth was such a pro.  you could just tell he knew what was going on and what he was doing.  and during a commercial break he came into the audience and said "does anyone have any questions for me?" and was really, really nice.  and he was hilarious.  i thought that the guest was going to be 50 cent and was disappointed we weren't there for the thankgiving taping because his family was the guests for that taping and i love his mom she is hilarious.  so as we were about to go in the pages announced "oh!  and for the first time in two years, we are taping the thanksgiving show the day before!  so the guests are his family!" i was so happy and they were absolutely hilarious.

here they are setting up the 30 rock tree which was lit on tv last night.  i was so disappointed that it wasn't lit when we were there!  how rude!!

the first day was tiring as we got up at 230 am to catch our flight but we were so excited and happy to start our adventure.  i am going to do two posts today because i can.

my top five

hello hello!  i hope everyone had a wonderful thanksgiving!  we are in NYC and if you haven't been following along on snapchat or instagram i can't tell you how it is going because this is a scheduled post!

katie at cup of tea reached out to me and told me that i was the featured blogger for this high five for friday! i'm so honored!  so be sure to check out the linkup on her blog, this one or this one! today!
Cup

i wanted to share the top five things i am most excited about seeing in new york.  there is so much on our agenda, i am positive we won't get to it all, but i am excited to see these the most!

1. late night with seth meyers.  i really am so shocked that we got into his taping.  but we are SO EXCITED.  i think you will find me saying the phrase "so excited" hundreds of time in this post.  i wrote on verbal gold blog about what it is like to attend a multi-camera comedy taping, but i am sure this will be much different as its a talk show.  the guests we will see are 50 cent (!!!!) and katy tur.  snooze on the katy, news anchor? and musical guest k. flay, who is pretty good she reminds me of lorde or halsey.

2. NBC studio tour.  will kenneth parcel be giving this tour?  not sure.  i hope he is!! hahaha.  this was one of the first things i booked.  i can't wait to see behind the scenes of the studio.  will i get to see the SNL set?

3. the rockettets.  we are seeing them on thanksgiving day and it will be such a fun way to kick off the (official) Christmas season!  it will be incredible.  i remember going as an 11 year old and thinking how magical it was.  i can't wait to experience that again, and this time, with taran.

4. shops on 5th avenue.  i really hope the Christmas window displays are up!  that might sound like a dumb question but the rockefeller tree won't be lit until november 30!!!! i won't be there to see it lit! ugh!!

5. the high line.  i have seen so, so many pictures of the high line and can't wait to go there.  i am sure it will be nothing like i imagined.

most of all, i can't wait to experience new york.  i have read and watched so many things on new york the past decade, and i can never imagine it because i don't really remember going there when i was 11.  i see all these pictures of the city and all i want to do is insert myself into that photo.  i can't wait to do that.

hope you all are having a great week!

london times

GUESS WHAT!! in the wee hours of this morning, we will be heading on our way to NYC! we can't wait. i haven't been since i was 11 and have been wanting to go back ever since and taran has never been. we have a jam packed schedule and of course there is so much to do and see!

as i am about to explore a new city, i wanted to share memories from a city i have explored: london. you might remember i did my study abroad there my senior year of college and it was incredible. while in london, i blogged on an entirely different blog and i want to move some memories and photos onto this blog. so please enjoy photos from my neighborhood in hyde park and my pictures from the first few days of living there.

when i was fresh off the plane and so tired.

each time we had classes or went to church, we got to walk through this beautiful college called imperial college.  i loved looking in through the windows of the library and thinking we were one and the same.  i was studying in london! but when i say "studying" i mean playing 95% of the time  and never doing my homework.

the night we got there, we went right to the parliament and the eye.

this was our flat!! i miss it so much!

we were literally a block away from hyde park, near kensington palace.  i remember my second day in london someone on a bike was going past me and nearly clipped me and said "sorry love!" i about died it was my first british phrase i heard!

kensington palace!

this is my favorite portion of the park. its the serpentine pond.

have a happy thanksgiving everyone!  i won't be blogging this week or until i get home next week so follow along on snapchat and instagram!
