Lot 48: NYC day 4

NYC day 4

day 4 in nyc!! this was saturday, also known as the day that i pushed myself too hard.  if you are behind here is day 1, day 2, and day 3.

saturday we decided to try again to go to the statue of liberty.  we got up earlier that we had the entire trip and went straight to battery park.  the wait was one hour, not two hours!  success!  but the waiting was terrible.  it. was. so. cold.

after an hour of waiting, we finally got on the boat and two minutes later, we were on the island!

it was pretty spectacular and surreal to be that close to the statue of liberty.

we were in the gift shop and i got a little silly with the statue of liberty

then we got back on the boat and went to ellis island!

we really were only at ellis island for about 20 minutes because this whole statue of liberty/ellis island was taking up so so much of our day i wanted to get along with our day.  so we got back on the boat and took the train to the brooklyn bridge!! we got out right where city hall was supposed to be.  that building is so iconic i tried really hard to find it.

then we started our walk to the brooklyn bridge.  it was GORGEOUS!!

finally at the brooklyn bridge!!

it was amazing.  this was one of the places where i couldn't picture myself there and had to insert myself into these pictures. it was beautiful.

then we headed to magnolia bakery which i heard was a nyc must.  we got cake and cheesecake.  and i was very disappointed in my cake. it was very plain.  it was the funfetti kind and it didn't taste like anything.  after all the hype, i expected it to be mind blowing, but it really didn't taste like anything.

then we headed to chelsea market which i also heard was a must.  and that did not disappoint at all.

it was really, really cool.  it was in this really old building that was modernized.  there were countless stores and restaurants and it was amazing. i think it used to be an oreo factory way, way back when.  but this was the point of the day when we had done so much that i got really really miserable.  like not cute crabby or cute miserable or uncomfortable, but seriously miserable.
my feet were beyond trashed.  we had walked so much, done so much, seen so much.  it was time to go home.  there was no place to sit down, i  didn't want to wait to eat, i wanted to just grab an egg sandwich at dunkin donuts near the apartment like we had been doing every morning the entire vacation.

on vacations and in life in general, i drive.  i plan everything, i am in control and i like it that way and taran likes it that way.  i need it that way.  i have to be in control.  taran helped a lot with planning our itinerary for this trip because i got really overwhelmed and it was such a nice breath of fresh air and it was such a nice change of pace.  so at this point in the trip, i said "take me home" and gave him the reins.  but he didn't know how to get me home.

so i took us to the subway station.  but the train wasn't  coming!!! expletives and anger was involved.  talking to the little guy in the little booth and the people around us happened.  more expletives happened.  yelling at taran happened.  yelling "GET ME HOME!!!!!!!!" happened.  taking a cab home never occured to him.  so i stormed out of that subway station like the lady that i am and hailed a cab in .02 seconds.  all that reading on how to not look like a tourist and how to hail a cab really paid off.  we got home in 15 minutes and i got SIT.  oh my loves, i got to SIT.  I GOT TO *?!%! SIT i can't even tell you how lovely it was to SIT.

so a piece of advice to my lovelies who are going on a vacation with lots of walking: don't push yourself. its not worth it.  because then you end up swearing at strangers and yelling at your husband.  what's funny is that we were home at 8 pm that night but it felt like we were home at 2 am that night.  i can't even tell you how exhausted we were that night.  it wasn't worth it, how hard we pushed ourselves.  it got to the point where it wasn't fun.  and on vacation, that is your only job: to have fun.
