Lot 48: word for the year

January 5, 2016

word for the year

i've never believed in new year's resolutions.  i've never thought that you should use a new year to take a look at yourself and see what you want to fix, or to make goals; i always thought you should do that each day.  be constantly improving, be constantly self evaluating.

but last year, i heard a great idea from someone in the blog world, can't remember who, to pick a word to live by for a year, instead of a bunch of resolutions.  i loved the idea, and chose the word FEARLESS, which i think i talked about a lot last year.

i had highnote designs designs this print and i hung it across from my bed where i looked at it everyday.  that word got me through the countless trials of 2015.  i really had no idea how perfect that word was going to be for that year when i picked it and how much i needed that year to get me through.

as 2015 came to a close, i got really excited to pick a new word.  i wanted the next word to be of good cheer and positivity.  at first, i thought of "content."  i have a tendency to look ahead to the next thing and not be happy with where i am with the moment.  it's hard for me to sit still.  but the more i thought about it, the more i thought about how i wanted 2016 to be a year of happiness, success, and most of all.... JOY.  so that is the word i picked.

this year, i want to search for the joy in all things, even in times of bad and trial.  i want to find joy in my low points.  i want this year to be joyful.  i don't want to be negative.  i want to be happy and to be optimistic.  i want to be JOYFUL.

karli at september farm and party paper did a wonderful job designing my print and i can't wait to look at it all year long.

may this year bring you joy as well! cheers!
