Lot 48: the proposal story

the proposal story

I'M ENGAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so happy.  This man is everything I have ever wanted and needed.  We were made for each other.
So let's begin the story, because I know you are dying to hear.

It was our 8 month anniversary of dating, Wednesday, October 23.  I usually go to the gym after work and therefore, never go home right after work. I called him on my lunch break and he said he had left a present for me at my house. I said "that's weird, why don't you just give it to me when I see you?" He said he thought I would really like the present and that I should go home first.
When I got home, there was this note. and a flashlight.  i got really cute really fast and drove to Amy's.  I had mentioned I would like a scavenger hunt and if so, I wanted Amy to come with me because I didn't want to go hunting alone.  And I also asked him to make sure I looked cute.

I was very excited.

The clues are very personal and special so I am not going to share the clues, but I will share the cards they were written on.  Amy gave me the first clue and told me to go to the place where we met.

Walking into the U of U institute building!

The girls at the front desk gave me my next clue.  I was instructed to go to the place where we had our first date.  To the hockey arena!

The clue was taped to the door of the arena.  This is really adorable. He put this note on all the clues.  The next clue instructed me to go to where we had our second first date. (we were out of touch for 8 months and then we went out again. i'll write a blog post about our love story too, don't worry.)

Off to Michelangelos! The waiters were so cute and excited for me.  The male waiter said "oh yeah, that man was good looking."

The next clue was to go to my old house. Driving there, Amy said "look at that sunset. That sunset is for you." Amen.  Engagement sunset.

Getting the next clue from the mailbox of my old house.

The next clue told me to go to the park where we had my birthday dinner.

This is where I got stubborn and lost. I was convinced the park was farther east than it actually was.  and then i went to the wrong pavillion. so this clue took a while.

Then I was told to go to a special place where we once danced.  Let me explain.  There is this gorgeous reception center that is now closed in Holladay.  One day, we went the library and I remember the reception center was nearby.  I made him stop and dance with me in the parking lot. That's where my next clue was.

It looks like an abandoned shed, but it is actually really really really gorgeous in the daytime.

There, i received my final clue.  What is at Dimple Dell Rd, you ask?
During the parade of homes this year, there was this mansion that I absolutely fell in love with.  It has this gorgeous backyard with a gazebo with a pretty path leading to it with trees and is oh so pretty.  When we went there in August for the parade, I said "I want to get engaged here." It was a model home, and nobody lives there, so he called the builders for permission.  I was really surprised, I didn't think he would actually pull it off.

awkward shot of excitement

it was dark, the ground was gravely and i was in heels and he wanted me to close my eyes. i would have broken my ankle! so he carried me. what a sweetheart.

look how pretty he decorated the gazebo! i started sobbing uncontrollably.  the cries sounded really weird, like i was laughing.  it was awkward crying.

He led me to the gazebo and wasted no time getting down on one knee.  I was crying so hard. I pulled a Leslie Knope and said "Wait! Just wait a second! I can't see you!" My eyes were so full of tears I couldn't see anything.  So he patiently waited as I wiped my tears and (attempted) to stop crying.  After a moment, he said "can I go now?" i said fine. And then he started talking and I started sobbing all over again. I was sobbing so hard I could barely get out "YES" but once I caught my breath, I said yes like, oh, I don't know, like 10 times.  Amy took a video of this whole thing and I can hear myself crying and saying YES over and over and over again.  I will treasure that video forever.

Now get ready for an overload of happy pictures.

look how there are roses in the lights! he went all out! look how pretty it was!

and now for the pictures i know you really wanna see...

he gave me roses too.
