our love story

taran and i are convinced we have the greatest love of anyone in the history of love. so..... here goes.

i've known i was going to marry Taran for quite a while.  I bought a Bride magazine back in March, when i was newly in love, we had been dating two weeks and my cheeks were constantly pink from thinking about him.  i bought the magazine not because i knew then, it was more like, oh-wouldn't-that-be-nice-we'll-see-how-this-goes-im-a-girl-and-i-daydream kind of situation. but i'm getting ahead of myself.  lets start at the beginning, shall we?

it was february 2012 and my friend asked me to go to institute with her.  she had already picked the class and i tagged along.  i can't tell you the name of the teacher or what class it was, all i remember is sitting next to taran everyday and having to shush him because we were talking so much during class.  i also remember getting excited on thursday nights because i knew i was going to see him that day.
one day, my friend and i were talking about going to a hockey game. since taran was sitting next to me and i had told my friend repeatedly that that boy was fiiiiine i turned to taran and said "do you like hockey?" he said yes and i said "okay lets go then."  apparently, im very forward.  stacey ended up not going and so i wasn't sure if it was a date or not, but nonetheless, he picked me up from my house and brought me candy and a blanket because he didn't want me to be cold in the arena.  i thought that was dang sweet.  he called me a few days later to ask me out again, and this time we went target shooting.  our targets looked the same with mine a bit better, i like to think i did the best because my gun didn't have a scope and his did ;) on that date he packed us lunches. this man is sweet, right?

he called me a few days later to ask me out again but the problem was, i was going on dates with taran and another dude. so when taran asked me out a third time, i said i couldn't because i was really dating the other guy by that point.  i stopped dating that other guy about a month after that but taran never asked me out again. by now, our relationship had morphed into just friends. we went to a party with my friend and a bee's game with my friend, so it was just the three of us hangin' out throughout that semester.  institute class ended and i didn't hear from him for eight months.

So now it is February 2013 and i realized i hadn't been on a date in a while. so i was thinking of fun boys i knew that i could go on a date with. taran immediately popped into my head. hmmmmmm, yeah he was cool.
so i texted him and asked him to go to, ironically, a hockey game.  he was busy the day of the hockey game but asked if i wanted to go to dinner. we were both really busy and so it was a few weeks before we finally went to dinner. he picked me up and gosh darnnit, he was as handsome as i remembered!  it was february 13, 2013. i was surprised by how easy it still was to be around him and how i felt we just fit.  there are few people i feel as comfortable around as i do him. two days later, i went to l.a. for a visit and he called me when i got back.  we went out again a week later and in his mind "became official". which btw, he didn't tell me i was his girlfriend so the next week when a few guys asked me out (when it rains it pours, right?) i said yes. but then i felt weird about it and asked taran what the deal-io was and he just said plainly "yeah, im your boyfriend".  okay, didn't know that. alright then.

8 months later, here we are.

God has a plan for all of us.  it amazes me how much the Lord guided us in our path to find each other.  we have been through a lot together, and have faced some of hardest trials of our lives together, but, here we are. he knows me better than anyone and that feeling i felt 8 months ago that we just fit has not gone away in the slightest.  i honestly can't believe how lucky i am and baffled at how i snagged this amazing man.  i will forever be indebted to my Lord for sending this man my way.  he is one of the greatest gifts i have ever received.

the proposal story

I'M ENGAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm so happy.  This man is everything I have ever wanted and needed.  We were made for each other.
So let's begin the story, because I know you are dying to hear.

It was our 8 month anniversary of dating, Wednesday, October 23.  I usually go to the gym after work and therefore, never go home right after work. I called him on my lunch break and he said he had left a present for me at my house. I said "that's weird, why don't you just give it to me when I see you?" He said he thought I would really like the present and that I should go home first.
When I got home, there was this note. and a flashlight.  i got really cute really fast and drove to Amy's.  I had mentioned I would like a scavenger hunt and if so, I wanted Amy to come with me because I didn't want to go hunting alone.  And I also asked him to make sure I looked cute.

I was very excited.

The clues are very personal and special so I am not going to share the clues, but I will share the cards they were written on.  Amy gave me the first clue and told me to go to the place where we met.

Walking into the U of U institute building!

The girls at the front desk gave me my next clue.  I was instructed to go to the place where we had our first date.  To the hockey arena!

The clue was taped to the door of the arena.  This is really adorable. He put this note on all the clues.  The next clue instructed me to go to where we had our second first date. (we were out of touch for 8 months and then we went out again. i'll write a blog post about our love story too, don't worry.)

Off to Michelangelos! The waiters were so cute and excited for me.  The male waiter said "oh yeah, that man was good looking."

The next clue was to go to my old house. Driving there, Amy said "look at that sunset. That sunset is for you." Amen.  Engagement sunset.

Getting the next clue from the mailbox of my old house.

The next clue told me to go to the park where we had my birthday dinner.

This is where I got stubborn and lost. I was convinced the park was farther east than it actually was.  and then i went to the wrong pavillion. so this clue took a while.

Then I was told to go to a special place where we once danced.  Let me explain.  There is this gorgeous reception center that is now closed in Holladay.  One day, we went the library and I remember the reception center was nearby.  I made him stop and dance with me in the parking lot. That's where my next clue was.

It looks like an abandoned shed, but it is actually really really really gorgeous in the daytime.

There, i received my final clue.  What is at Dimple Dell Rd, you ask?
During the parade of homes this year, there was this mansion that I absolutely fell in love with.  It has this gorgeous backyard with a gazebo with a pretty path leading to it with trees and is oh so pretty.  When we went there in August for the parade, I said "I want to get engaged here." It was a model home, and nobody lives there, so he called the builders for permission.  I was really surprised, I didn't think he would actually pull it off.

awkward shot of excitement

it was dark, the ground was gravely and i was in heels and he wanted me to close my eyes. i would have broken my ankle! so he carried me. what a sweetheart.

look how pretty he decorated the gazebo! i started sobbing uncontrollably.  the cries sounded really weird, like i was laughing.  it was awkward crying.

He led me to the gazebo and wasted no time getting down on one knee.  I was crying so hard. I pulled a Leslie Knope and said "Wait! Just wait a second! I can't see you!" My eyes were so full of tears I couldn't see anything.  So he patiently waited as I wiped my tears and (attempted) to stop crying.  After a moment, he said "can I go now?" i said fine. And then he started talking and I started sobbing all over again. I was sobbing so hard I could barely get out "YES" but once I caught my breath, I said yes like, oh, I don't know, like 10 times.  Amy took a video of this whole thing and I can hear myself crying and saying YES over and over and over again.  I will treasure that video forever.

Now get ready for an overload of happy pictures.

look how there are roses in the lights! he went all out! look how pretty it was!

and now for the pictures i know you really wanna see...

he gave me roses too.
